Chapter 3
January 4th, 2010: Woke up at around 9am, hoping that I’d have time to film a new video for YouTube. My first class didn’t start until 4:40pm and my roommate was gone for most of the day. The video I made wasn’t anything too special, just another vlog. Letting the day fly by was probably the hardest thing to do. I didn’t have much to do except wait. Even after class was over, hunting down for things to do seemed impossible. I could have easily gone on Skype and chat with some friends, but avoiding it seemed best at that moment since my dreams only involved the internet. Adam wouldn’t let that happen though. He kept texting me, telling me to get on Skype, but I threw one excuse after another until he finally guilt tripped me. He told me that I never want to talk to him anymore. So of course, going on Skype was the next thing I did after that text.
The whole conversation that night went as any another night goes; Adam insults, I yell, Chago mocks, Justin laughs. Ended up going to bed around 1am like usual, but this time I made sure I had other things in my mind other than that Skype call. First, I tried to think about a guy I liked, but lately it’s been hard finding a guy that I’m truly interested in, so that thought failed. Next thought was about upstate New York and all the memories I spent there. That place is really like a get away from the rest of the world. I ended up falling asleep really quickly while I was thinking about upstate.
Ten minutes later, my phone rang. I couldn’t be bothered to look at who it was. As soon as I answered it, Adam yelled, “MAROBY!”
“Miles, I told you I was going to bed,” I said without thinking.
“But I’ve been waiting outside for 10 minutes! I thought you were coming down to get me,” he said.
“Just walk up the stairs, I’ll open the door when you’re on my floor.”
“Ugh, fine.”
Clearly, this was all just a dream because Miles isn’t Adam’s name. That phone call felt so real though and I suddenly felt a little more awake. When I switched the lights on, my roommate wasn’t there. In fact, the twin beds were put together and the entire room was mine. I still had my pajamas on, which made sense, kind of. When Adam called back, I was already half way to the door.
The hallways were a little nicer than usual, but what really made my eyes open was when I opened the door for Adam. Adam was…Hispanic. What freaked me out even more is when he tried to kiss me. I quickly moved my head so he ended up kissing me on the cheek.
“That tired, huh?” he asked.
“Uh, sure,” I couldn’t even look at him.
I rushed to my room while he was a couple feet behind me. While I paused to find my keys to the room, he put his arms around my waist. This is NOT what I would dream about! I felt incredibly uncomfortable. My keys were slipping through my fingers in my pocket which made me panic. Finally, when I got them, I tried to feel calm while I was walking into my room.
“So, uh, what’s up?” I asked awkwardly.
“We can sleep now if you’re super tired. We don’t have to do anything, I just can’t stand hearing my neighbors get it on,” he said.
“You wanna sleep with…next to me?” this was probably the weirdest dream ever.
“When don’t I want to?” he asked.
“Uh, I don’t know. I like sleeping alone,” I said.
“Maroby,” he gave me a look.
“Don’t. Don’t give me that look,” I demanded.
“Marobyyyy,” he said again trying to convince me to let him stay.
“No! Miles! I wanna be alone tonight,” I said.
“Alright, but you’re gonna regret it later,” he started walking out.
Once I closed my door, I thought I was going to be able to fall asleep. It took me six hours. Six hours of thinking about everything. When I finally did sleep, I woke up five minutes later. It was 8am once again. My dreams just started feeling like a torture room.
