Chapter 7

January 19th, 2010: I haven’t heard from Adam in days. Real Adam, that is. He hasn’t texted me, I haven’t seen him on Skype, it’s like he just vanished. I also haven’t had a dream since my last entry. I’ve been able to gain my sleeping pattern back and not be as cranky. Finally, my life was somewhat going back to normal. Adam was the only person I worried about. The entire day, I sat down and texted him, called him, messaged him, and anything else to get in contact with him. I gave up at around midnight. No one knew where he was or has been.

Even though Skype was open, I wasn’t really focused on talking to anyone. Right before bed, I bought a ticket to go down and see if he’s home at all. I wouldn’t even mind seeing him in my dream. I just wanted to know that he was alright.

No dreams appeared for the first hour. I was surprised that I dreamed at all that night. In it, my eyes opened to the sound of a train. The scenery was amazing; open fields of green grass. The ticket to see Adam was in my hand. This was probably the first dream in weeks that was pleasant. My seat was so comfortable so I tried to continue sleeping, but then I heard a voice. Adam’s voice.

        “Sup, ween,” Adam said.
“ADAM!” I tried to give him a hug, but he didn’t give one back.
        “You wanted to see me?”
“Yeah, where have you been? I’ve been worried sick.”
        “Don’t worry about it, turbo.”

Adam looked a lot more realistic than my last dream. He seemed pretty relaxed though. He kept vanishing and appearing in different areas while he was talking to me. He didn’t tell me much about where he’s been, but he’s told me a lot about what he’s done. He traveled to places he wanted to go to, hung out with his close friends and did whatever he felt like doing. I can imagine him doing that in his dreams, but not in reality. I wanted to ask him where he was in the real world, but I don’t even think he knows the difference. I asked anyways.

“Real world? What’s real to you Whitney? Is this real?” he asked.
“No, this is just a dream,” I answered.
“Guess again. This entire place is real and we can live in it. You know that,” he started to scare me.
“Adam, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said.
“Then you’re not ready,” he replied.

I woke up in my bed with the train ticket in my hand.
